Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has made a substantial donation to individuals affected by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

As reported by numerous news sources, Buterin donated approximately $150,000 worth of Ether to Ahbap Earthquake Support in response to the recent natural disasters.

According to Etherscan transaction data, Vitalik transferred 99 ETH, or approximately $150,000, from his wallet address “vitalik.eth” to a wallet branded “Ahbap Yardm.”.Mississippi Passes Bill Protecting Crypto Miners’ Rights With Buterin’s generous contribution, the organization can aid victims of the tragedy more effectively.

Also highlighted in the contribution is that cryptocurrency is becoming an increasingly popular way to contribute to charitable organizations.

Quake Claims 25,000 Lives

As of Saturday, the death toll in the two countries had surpassed 25,000, making the earthquakes the worst in more than a decade.

This week’s fatalities in Turkey and Syria surpassed Japan’s 2011 Fukushima disaster, in which a magnitude 9.0 earthquake caused a tsunami that killed over 18,400 people.

Chainalysis, a blockchain analytics startup, estimates that more than $5 million in Ethereum and other cryptocurrency donations were sent to Turkey and Syria in the aftermath of the earthquake.
