Sony launches Soneium mainnet to power fan-driven web3 experiences

Sony’s Soneium main net is now online, providing creators with faster, cheaper blockchain solutions as well as options for connecting with fans via NFTs and cryptocurrency. On January 14, Sony expanded on the success of its 2024 testnet, Soneium Minato, which had over 15 million wallets and 50 million transactions, by introducing Soneium, a blockchain main-net that allows artists to engage more directly with fans.

Sony unveiled S.BLOX, which changes the way people trade cryptocurrencies, and promised an NFT-based Fan Marketing Platform planned to launch in early 2025.

The S.BLOX exchange provides customers with a simple way to obtain crypto assets for usage in web3 applications. To commemorate its launch, S.BLOX is paying new members with Bitcoin BTC0.99% Bitcoin and has announced a joint NFT campaign with Ghost in the Shell.

Meanwhile, its NFT-based Fan Marketing Platform, scheduled to launch in February 2025, simplifies NFT issuance and engagement metrics by incorporating web-based wallets with social login options. The platform also gives creators options to engage with their audiences through NFT-based initiatives.

The mainnet will now allow developers and creators to migrate their applications, enabling features such as fan-driven community events and cryptocurrency payments.

Soneium is a layer-2 solution for Ethereum (ETH-1.66%). It builds a network on top of the existing ETH layer-1, handles data processing, and addresses concerns like sluggish processing speed and high fees in layer 1. Soneium also uses the Optimism OP1.07% Optimism stack designed by the Optimism Foundation to produce a scalable, EVM-compatible, and developer-friendly blockchain.

Moreover, in 2024, Sony Block Solutions Labs collaborated with Startale Group to construct Web3 infrastructure, laying the framework for Soneium’s mainnet.
