The TON is back online after a second DOGS-related outage in 36 hours

The Open Network is back up after being down twice in 36 hours due to high demand for a new meme coin known as DOGS.  The Open Network (TONNE) is back up following a second significant outage in 36 hours.

The official TONNE Community reported the network’s return to regular functionality around 1 a.m. UTC on August 29 in the official TONNE Telegram group, following its downtime at 7:17 p.m. on August 28.”TONNE network is fully operational!” announced the TONNE Community chat, adding that withdrawals and transfers to TONNE wallets would be credited within the next several hours and days.

The most recent outage lasted little over six hours, and TONNE blamed it on a spike in network activity caused by the introduction of Dogs (DOGS), a new TON-based memecoin.

TONNE went down about 11 p.m. UTC on August 27 and ceased producing blocks for six hours until resuming operations around 5:30 a.m. UTC on August 28.

Market commentators and members of the TONNE Community attributed the first downtime on the DOGS memecoin, and official TONNE channels verified it once the network fell down again.

The TONNE network has endured more than 12 hours of downtime in the last 36 hours.

DOGS, a new memecoin running on the TONNE blockchain, was officially introduced in July 2024 and debuted on August 27. It is billed as the “most Telegram-native memecoin.”

Spotty, a mascot modelled after Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov’s beloved dog, inspired the memecoin. Durov was arrested in France. The introduction of DOGS has resulted in substantial congestion on TONNE, with the token generating over $1.7 billion in trade volume within the first 10 hours of debut. The official Dogs Telegram channel has approximately 17 million users in less than two months since the coin was first proposed.

The Telegram messaging network has integrated TONNE, a third-party blockchain system, into its service and has stated that it would continue operating despite Durov’s detention.

Toncoin’s price has increased by 8% since the network reopened, and it is now trading at $5.57, according to CoinGecko data.

Despite rebounding on reports that network functionality had been restored, Toncoin has dropped 17% in the previous week, with the token’s price plummeting following Durov’s arrest.
