Telegram issues official statement on Pavel Durov detention

The Telegram team stated, “Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and travels frequently throughout Europe.” The Telegram messaging platform has released what appears to be its first official statement regarding the detention of its CEO, Pavel Durov.

Durov’s situation is unclear, as French authorities have apparently refused to cooperate with the Russian consulate. As previously reported by Cointelegraph, Paris officials plan to issue an official statement on Monday, August 26.

Telegram’s formal statement was released on August 25 at roughly 12:00PM PST on the platform’s Telegram News channel. The corporation expressed its unwavering support for its CEO and hoped for a swift resolution to the problem.

At this time, it is unknown what charges Durov has faced – or whether he has even been arrested. Various sources suggest that he was arrested on charges connected to the alleged lack of moderation on the Telegram platform, but details are limited in the absence of formal confirmation from the French government or any explanation from Telegram.
