Solana(SOL) Mobile ‘Chapter 2’ airdrops briefly exceed cost of pre-order

Airdrops from two cat-themed memecoins may have covered the whole pre-order cost of the Solana ‘Chapter 2’ mobile gadget.

Pre-order holders of Solana’s ‘Chapter 2’ mobile phone had a brief opportunity to profit on the yet-to-be-released mobile phone, when memecoins airdropped to buyers briefly exceeded the phone’s cost.  In April, the teams behind two cat-themed memecoin projects, Cat in a Dog’s World (MEW) and Maneki (MANEKI), airdropped tokens into the wallets of crypto fans who pre-ordered the updated Chapter 2 device, which cost $450 up front. On April 1, the MEW team airdropped 37,600 tokens to each bearer. total with other namecoin projects, like Wuffi (WUFFI), which airdropped 114,000 tokens to Chapter 2 wallets, the total airdrops would have earned holders $480, letting them to pay for the gadget and even make an additional $30 in profit, according to airdrop value checker twoloot.com.

The memecoins’ values have now declined, with MEW now worth only $220 at current prices and MANEKI down to $124. Buyers who pre-ordered Chapter 2 handsets were forced to connect to a Solana wallet address, which meant that the airdropped tokens were available to holders before the phone arrived.Owners of Solana’s first mobile gadget, the ‘Saga,’ also received an equal amount of Maneki in their wallets.

The original Solana Saga was released in May of last year with little excitement, with numerous reviews highlighting technical and usability faults with the devices.

However, the phones began to fly off the shelves in December, when degens spotted a bizarre arbitrage opportunity given by a namecoin surge for Bonk (BONK).

Between November 15 and December 15, last year, the price of BONK increased by more than 1,100%. At peak rates, the 30,000 BONK airdrop was worth more than $1,150, or $551 more than the initial $599 price tag for the Saga phone.
