Google Cloud launches Ethereum-compatible blockchain RPC service

For the time being, Google Cloud’s Blockchain Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is only compatible with Ethereum, however additional blockchains will be supported in the future.

Google Cloud has released a Blockchain Remote Procedure Call (RPC) tool to let cryptocurrency developers interface with blockchain data and improve the stability of decentralized applications (DApps).

Google Cloud announced in a blog post on September 17 that the new service will initially be compatible with the Ethereum main net and test net, with intentions to expand to other blockchains within the next year.

The blockchain RPC service will first begin with a free tier that allows for up to 100 call requests per second and one million requests per day, as well as support for EIP-1474, a defined set of RPC protocols for Ethereum nodes.

Google Cloud stated that its Blockchain RPC is completely compatible with Ethereum’s JSON-RPC standard, allowing cryptocurrency developers to integrate it into Ethereum-based DApps with a single line of code.

An RPC is a software communication protocol that allows one program to request a service from another on a different computer or network.

According to Google Cloud, RPC dependability has been an ongoing concern for many crypto developers, as even little delays or failures can have an impact on the speed of decentralised apps, many of which require the capacity to clear and settle transactions in near real time.

Typically, RPC issues in blockchain networks occur during periods of particularly high network activity or transaction volumes.

ZKsync, the Ethereum layer-2 scaling network, experienced significant delays and impaired network operation in June due to excessive network activity and RPC provider issues.

On April 25, Google Cloud unveiled the Web3 Portal, a product suite that provides resources for blockchain developers like as data sets and tutorials, to mixed reviews from crypto pundits.

Several cryptocurrency pundits criticized Google’s Web3 portal for its “terrible” user interface, while others raised alarm about the lack of support for major blockchain ecosystems like as Bitcoin.
