Solana phone sales skyrocket as degens scramble for pumped-up BONK

The free BONK airdrop for Saga customers currently costs $877, making it, at least temporarily, a “phone that pays for itself.” Memecoin enthusiasts have flocked to Solana’s crypto phone in droves following a recent price increase for Solana memecoin Bonk (BONK), which has climbed more than 1,100% in the last 30 days.

Since the Solana phone’s release on May 8, new owners have been able to claim a free 30 million airdrop of the memecoin, but a recent surge in the token’s price has offered buyers an intriguing arbitrage opportunity. “Solana phone sales have > 10x’d in the past 48 hours, and are now on track to sell out before the new year,” Solana co-founder Raj Gokal tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) on December 15. At current pricing, the 30 million BONK airdrop is worth an incredible $877 — $278 more than the Saga phone’s current $599 price, making it one of the more odd arbitrage chances available to crypto aficionados.

Bonk has increased by 1,100% in the previous 30 days. Bonk’s market valuation has recently surpassed that of competitor memecoin Pepe. Memecoins are not well-known for their long-term stability. The surge in sales was so substantial that fellow Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakavenko proposed boosting the price of the Saga, which had been reduced from $999 to $599 in August because to falling sales. A Solana representative revealed to Cointelegraph that total Saga sales have surpassed “millions of dollars worth” in the last 48 hours. “Very cool to see Solana community projects making Saga the ‘phone that pays for itself,'” said the spokeswoman.

Solana Mobile said that all future orders would be limited to one mobile device per home as a result of the surge in purchasing activity. We’re here to make the Saga experience available to everyone. We’re restricting Saga purchases to one per household because of the enormous response. This means that more members of our community will be able to experience the Saga. The sales frenzy represents a watershed moment for the long-struggling device. On December 5, Yakovenko appeared on Laura Shin’s Unchained Podcast to address the Saga phone’s poor performance, claiming he hadn’t seen a “tonne of signal” that the product will eventually sell 50,000 units. Furthermore, he stated that he does not use his Solana Saga as his primary mobile device, but rather as a “NFT phone.” Finally, the trade opportunity is based on the assumption that BONK will still be trading near or above current values at the time the user receives the Solana gadget. Memecoins are notoriously volatile, with frequent price fluctuations.
